Martín Antolín, a councilor for the Libertarian Party in San Rafael who was detained for driving under the influence of alcohol in the city of Mendoza, submitted a written request a few hours ago and requested a 16-day unpaid leave. The councilor's request became known on Wednesday at approximately 1:00 PM, following a session at the San Rafael Deliberative Council, where the Frente Cambia Mendoza bloc advanced a project to begin an investigation aimed at Antolín's removal from office. During the legislative meeting, the councilor apologized for the incident on Arístides Villanueva Street where he was the protagonist, and fired sharp criticism at the various political groups that came out to condemn him after the episode. During his speech, he stated that prior to his detention, he had dined at a restaurant with his partner where he had consumed wine. "I never imagined that the breathalyzer would come back positive," he stated. He also clarified that "the wine glasses they found were a gift from the restaurant owner and did not contain alcoholic beverages." As a defense, he asserted: "I presented myself to the Justice system, I was fined, and I have to undergo treatment," and he attacked "the two blocs that don't want me in the City Council." He also expressed anger at Governor Alfredo Cornejo, who had called for his resignation in statements to the press.
